How to Fix Faulty Key Repairs
A faulty key fob can throw off your whole day. Fortunately, fixing the issue is simple with the right tools and procedures.
Before you begin any repairs, you must always make sure you ground yourself to eliminate static electricity. It's only a matter of seconds and is a good idea when working with electronics generally.
Look for any debris under the key that is defective. Breadcrumbs and other debris can get stuck under keys, preventing them from being properly pushed in.
Broken Car Keys
Car keys are something we ignore until they stop or break working at the most difficult times. If you're trying to open the trunk of your car to get groceries, unlocking your doors to go somewhere, or driving your car and heading off to work, keys for cars can be extremely frustrating when they do not work.
Over time, keys to automobiles can wear out. They can be damaged by being dropped or thrown around and the internal components may wear down until they're no longer functioning as they should. This is a serious issue that will mean you'll be unable to operate your vehicle until you have an additional key or your mechanic corrects the problem.
Fortunately, most broken keys for cars can be replaced or repaired easily. If the key has broken inside the lock or ignition you can easily remove the remaining piece of the key by using pliers or coated wire. If you do this, however, it is a good idea to use some silicone on the back of your key fob before inserting the new contacts. Silicone will help to seal the contacts and keep water out.
Another reason for a malfunctioning key fob is that it is no longer paired with the vehicle. When you press a key fob, it sends the car a message that tells it what you are trying to do. If the key fob is not paired it will not recognize the vehicle and will no longer allow you to start your engine.
If you're unable to get your key fob to pair with your vehicle, it's likely to call an auto locksmith or dealer technician. They'll have the equipment necessary to reprogram the fob to make it work again. You'll likely have to pay an amount for the service, but it's much less expensive than buying an entirely new key fob.
Unresponsive Keys

You may also want to try reinstalling your keyboard drivers to resolve the issue. Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause your keyboard to stop functioning, which is why you should always keep them up to date whenever possible.
Another possibility is that the key may be damaged. Every key switch is composed of two circuits, and they could wear out over time until the point where they can no longer register the press. If this is the situation, it is best to replace the keyboard because the keyboard will not perform as it should.
If you've tried these fixes, but the key does not respond then it's time to have an expert examine your laptop keyboard or an external computer keyboard. There may be a physical issue with the membrane that covers your keyboard, or it could be that one of the keys has become defective.
You can test the keys with a keyboard tester. The website will let you know whether the keys are functioning correctly or not. If they are, then it is most likely to be a software issue. Then, you can begin applying the other fixes in order to regain full functionality. Alternatively, you could consider using an external keyboard to temporarily solve the issue until the internal keyboard can be repaired or replaced.

This will allow you to replace the hooks that connect the retainer to the switch, and hopefully bring back the functionality of the key.
